Community Icon Receives Standing Ovation
Due to their growing success, the Cincinnati Opera staff needed to expand their administrative office space to accommodate their growing staff. With a desire to remain in historic Music Hall, creating space within the existing shell of the 127 year old building was akin to constructing a "ship in a bottle."
Our design strategy was two fold: Preserve the history and architectural detail of the celebrated building, and incorporate the Cincinnati Opera's creative goal to be beautiful, magical, romantic, thrilling and passionate. Brick and concrete walls were left exposed to accentuate the building's unique history. To maximize square footage, two new floors were inserted into the building's shell. In the box office area, glass walls and seasonal graphics showcase the Opera's new attitude and upcoming performances. Clean, sharp, minimal lines were used to create a modern atmosphere, and reflect the Opera's balance between old and new. To this day, the contemporary feel of the new office creates an inspiring, comfortable environment that represents the aspirations of the Cincinnati Opera.
