Warm Midwestern Hospitality

Starting in 2006 FRCH has worked with the Hyatt Regency Wichita to complete a series of ongoing renovations to update the 1989 hotel. Each renovation updates the aesthetic of the traditionally designed hotel by using a modern design language that evolves over time.

The new design of the lobby needed to incorporate the existing vaulted ceilings while at the same time creating a new contemporary feel. We created a suspended large scale light fixture to pull all of the new seating areas together visually. A new series of Registration Pods with a richly veined white stone were installed in the east end of the lobby. These are backed by a new Artistic Glass wall backdrop which completes the composition. The Prefunction Corridor and Ballrooms were renovated next with the goal of creating a bit of contrast between the cool materiality of the lobby and the warm and richly textured Prefunction Corridor. A Corten Steel like Porcelain Tile clads a large scale accent wall that announces the new Ballroom entrance. The ceiling features a large scale dipped bronze decorative light fixture that creates a warm glow that softens and complements the Accent wall.
