New Life for an Old Friend

The Renaissance Cincinnati is located within the historic Bartlett Building in downtown Cincinnati. Designed by Daniel Burnham as the headquarters for Union Trust Bank it was once Cincinnati's tallest building. Built in three phases:1901, 1914 and 1930, it had been vacant since 2010. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, FRCH was tasked with the lofty challenge of not only renovating the space for a new luxury hotel but restoring the historic details along the way.

FRCH was careful to pay homage to the historical nature of the former Bartlett Building while offering new and sophisticated experiences for its hotel guests. FRCH employed painstaking efforts to restore the building's historic ballroom and lobbies while revamping and replacing all of the buildings environmental and life safety systems. A new modern glass canopy was added at the 4th Street entry that illuminates the original building storefront while complementing but not copying the original building architecture. New Exit Stairs and a New Service Elevator were also installed. Existing elevators were refurbished. The buildings original construction was supplemented with additional fire resistive construction to bring it up to current building codes. In the end, the completed Renaissance Hotel has 323 guestrooms, 10,000 SF of meeting space, a full service restaurant and bar along with required back of house functions.
